- 5721-1961, the Rebbe’s secretariat issued a statement addressed to every Chabad chasid: When sending the Rebbe a petition for blessing, especially for the new year, one should also include a list of what Torah study sessions they are keeping.

- 5741-1981, at 8:00 PM on the shared birthday of the Baal Shem Tov — founder of Chasidism, and the Alter Rebbe — founder of Chabad, the Rebbe sent a message through one of the administrators of the yeshivah in 770 instructing the students to study Torah with extra diligence, in a manner that will impact the entire new year. The Rebbe added that he would be coming to pray maariv five minutes late in order to give them extra time to study.
