Davening Before Work

Rebbe Responsa | December 10, 2025

Rectifying issue with personal davening; Davening at home as opposed to the workplace; Pesach wishes

By the Grace of G-d
25th of Adar, 5718
Brooklyn, N.Y.
Mr. Benjamin Saacks
116 Cazenove Road
London, N. 16.
Greeting and Blessing:
I received your letter of the 18th of Adar, in which you write about the problem you had with davvening, asking my advice.
You should henceforth davven at home in the morning, whenever you cannot davven in Shul, and you should not leave your davvening for your place of work. As for making amends for the past, you should resolve (bli-neder) to devote 10 to 15 extra minutes daily as an addition to your Shiurim, not permitting this time to be interrupted by anything. As to when this extra period should be, you should decide upon a week or two in advance. But above all, you should davven at home, whenever not in Shul, so you will be able to concentrate better, and it will also be in the proper time.
As in every case of a transgression, a cent or two extra Tzedoko goes a long way to forgiveness, and this too should be bli-neder.
With blessing,
M.S.

This letter having been delayed, your letter of 24th of Adar arrived in the meantime. I was pleased to read in it that you had an enjoyable and inspiring Purim. I wish you and your wife a kosher and happy Pesach, a Festival of Freedom in the fullest sense of the word, meaning also freedom from all things distracting and interfering with kosher and ample Parnosso, peace of mind and serving G-d with joy. I hope to hear good news from you always.
