When dealing with his worldly affairs, he throws himself into them with all his heart and soul. He is attentive and interested in every detail. But when he enters the synagogue to pray, his prayer is hurried, and even during the few minutes he devotes to it he is not focused, his mind occupied instead with his business and what he plans to do afterward.

This use of double standards is also expressed in educating children. When it comes to secular education, a person is unwilling to compromise and strives to obtain for his children the best school and the finest extracurricular activities.

But when it comes to Torah studies, in his view it is enough to settle for the bare minimum, just to fulfill the obligation.
