Accordingly, it is understood why this system of refining one’s Yetzer HoRa can be considered an optional battle. Because there are other options of refining the Yetzer HoRa in a relaxed manner as a result of Torah study. This is what is referred to at the end of our Parsha when the Torah writes: ׳וֹלְך מִּכָל־אֹיְבֶיך ג וְהָיָה בְהָנִּיחַ ה׳ אֱלֹקֶיך “It will be, when HaShem your G-d grants you respite from all your enemies” because then there will be no need for any war.
As the Possuk states: ׳וֹ פָדָה בְשָלוֹם נַפְשִּי מִּקְרָב־לִּי ג “He redeemed my soul in peace from the battle that came upon me,” and as it says: וְחֶרֶב לֹא־תַעֲבֹר בְאַרְצְכֶם “And no sword will pass through your land” not even a sword of peace and then the Avodah will be in a relaxed manner which is the way of the Avodah of Torah study.
Furthermore, even when the situation calls for battle in the Avodah of prayer, if partnered with Torah study which is an Avodah in a relaxed manner then the Avodah of prayer also becomes something else entirely.
