Turning a Sin Into a “Brother”:

Rav Boruch of Kosov zy”a, (Sefer Nechmad V’Naim) explains that the word “Edomi” refers to a person’s aveiros. (The word literally means “red”, and aveiros are referred to as being red in Yeshaya 1:18). Accordingly, the pasuk is telling people not to despise their sins “because they are your brother.” This is because when one does teshuva out of love, his deliberate sins are transformed into merits (Yoma 86B) and they become like his friends and brothers that provide benefit for him.
