A Future Rising

The Shelah adds one final gem: "Count carefully and you will find that 'Korach-Hevel' has the same gematria as 'Moshe.'" The hint: even Korach carries within him an ultimate destiny of rectification. This is also hinted in Tehillim (צב יג): צַדִּיק כַּתָּמָר יִפְרָח - The righteous will flourish like a palm tree. The final letters of these three words spell the name of קרח.

For Korach did not truly die, says the Shelah. He descended alive into Sheol, suspended between existence and non-existence, and there he remained - enduring his suffering, and confessing: "Moshe is true and his Torah is true" (בבא בתרא עד ע"א). The Ribbono Shel Olam, in His infinite mercy, did not grant him the closure of physical death, for only the living can do teshuvah. So He left him living, and therefore capable of returning. He can still "flourish like a palm tree" - even one who descended to the lowest depths may yet rise, if he carries within him the seed of confession and return.
