Blessings for Children

The Way of Emunah | June 27, 2025

A man who had not been blessed with children once came to Trisk. The owner of the inn where he was staying asked about the purpose of his visit and he said that he came to get a bracha from the Magid for children. The innkeeper told him, “Let me tell you my story.”

He related that he was a young man when the Magid moved to Trisk and established his court there and he began attending the Magid’s tishen every week. He enjoyed the tishen very much and became close to the Magid. When he would go to see his Rebbe, the Sar Shalom of Belz zy”a, he would first get a blessing from the Magid.

The innkeeper also had not yet had any children and he would beg the Belzer Rebbe to daven for him. One time, after he exhorted the Rebbe to help him, he saw the Rebbe sigh, and he understood that there was no hope.

The next Shabbos, the innkeeper was back in Trisk. At the tish, the Magid drank some wine and when the innkeeper waved his hand to wish him “l’chaim”, the Magid said, “I bless you to have good children. B’ezras Hashem, you will have a son this year.”

The innkeeper was shocked. He built up the courage to tell the Magid what happened in Belz, but the Magid said, “But I bless you and promise you that you will a son this year, b’ezras Hashem.”

The next week, the man traveled to Belz for Shabbos, and the Rebbe asked him, “You were just here two weeks ago. Why are you back so soon?”
