מיד רשעים יצילם – Mi’yad reshaim yatzileim. From the might of the wicked He rescues them.
The Alshich HaKadosh explains that Hashem does not interfere with the free will of reshaim. If they choose to do us harm, that is their application of their free will. If someone wants to be a rasha, wicked, B’derech she’adam rotzeh leileich molichin oso; “On the path that one chooses to go, he will be led.” This applies, however, only with regard to our physical entities, our bodies and our material possessions. With regard to our neshamos, the neshamos have free reign. Our spiritual essence is pure and connected with Hashem. Any harm that may afflict our spiritual well-being is viewed as the result of our own actions or choices, rather than solely the influence of external forces. We have the power to safeguard our spiritual integrity by clinging to Hashem through Torah and mitzvos. While the reshaim will certainly make it difficult for us –as they have throughout the millennia -- we stand strong today, in fact, stronger than ever. Whatever we may have lost, we gave them.
