The Rebbe's love for every Jew was leg-endary. From it also stemmed his great sensitivity not to cause even the slightest shadow of hurt or insult to another Jew. Here is a small example:
One Friday night, after prayers, the Rebbe was walking home. Two young girls were playing on the sidewalk, and when they saw the Rebbe, they stood on opposite sides of the walkway, such that the Rebbe would have had to pass between them (it is well known that there is a practice to avoid passing between two women, and vice versa).
When the Rebbe reached them, he turned to one of the girls and quietly said: "Good Shabbos. Go over to your friend and wish her a 'Good Shabbos' in my name." The girl quickly crossed the sidewalk to her friend, and the Rebbe continued on his way...
