This week in....
5728-1968, as part of his official tour to the USA, Rabbi Yehuda Leib Levin, the Chief Rabbi of Moscow, came to meet the Rebbe. They discussed the state of Judaism in Moscow, which books were available there and how the synagogues were functioning. Since Rabbi Levin was constantly accompanied by Soviet officials, the Rebbe only mentioned the names of people who were no longer in the Soviet Union or who had already passed away. At a subsequent farbrengen, the Rebbe strongly rebuked those who protested against Rabbi Levin and urged American Jews, who are free to practice Judaism, to learn from the rabbi, who was doing so in the face of persecution.
