Why is it so important that the Torah needs to mention that all their wealth also went under the ground? There is a famous expression: רַּ ייךְ וִ וי קֹּ רַּ ח “Rich like Korach". We see that Korach is an example of extreme wealth. By Dassan and Aviram it says that they called Mitzrayim an: אֶרֶץ זָבַּת חָלָב וּדְבָשׁ land flowing with milk and honey. How could Mitzrayim be called: זָבַּת חָלָב וּדְבָשׁ flowing with milk and honey? The Medrash says that to Dassan and Aviram it was like Gan Eden, since they were very rich.
We see that both Korach and Dassan and Aviram were very wealthy. We can suggest that the reason why their wealth had to sink under the ground was because their wealth caused their Ga’ava and their complaints. Like Chazal say that Avshalom’s beautiful hair caused his Ga’ava and his downfall.
In Megilas Esther it says that Haman was telling his friends all about 1. his great wealth, 2. his many sons, and 3. his high government rank. Of his three great accomplishments, his money was #1 on his list. We can suggest that his great wealth caused his unusual Ga’ava, and as a result made him persecute Klal Yisroel. And Achashveirosh is described as being unusually rich. We can suggest that this caused Achashveirosh and Haman to be so cruel.
It always bothered me why by Megilas Esther it says: וּבַּבִזָה לֹּא שָׁלְחוּ אֶת יָדָם אסתר ט י they did not take any spoils, and by Mitzrayim it says: וְאַּחֲרֵי כֵן יֵצְאוּ בִרְ כֻשׁ גָדוֹל לך טו יד they went out with great wealth. We can suggest that during the time of Purim, the Yidden witnessed how money can corrupt and cause people to become cruel, and because they learned this lesson: וּבַּבִזָה לֹּא שָׁלְחוּ אֶת יָדָם they did not touch the spoils. But by Yetzias Mitzrayim we don’t find that Paroh became cruel because of money.
