This week's Torah portion, Lech Lecha, describes G-d's promise of the Land of Israel to the Jewish people. It also describes Abraham's travels through the land whereby he acquired it for his descendants forever. Abraham's traversing of the land was not a necessary prerequisite for his taking possession of it as G-d's promise itself sufficed to transfer ownership of the Holy Land to Abraham.
It has been mentioned numerous times that the Rebbe's statements regarding the Holy Land, and his staunch position not to give even one inch of land to the Arabs, has less to do with Biblical promises and much more to do with Pikuach Nefesh - the saving of lives.
The Rebbe has been unequivocally clear in basing his position of the clear-cut ruling of the Shulchan Aruch - Code of Jewish Law that ceding any territory entirely corrodes our buffer zone of security and endangers the life of all those residing in the Holy Land.
Unfortunately, the Rebbe's stand has been shown to be absolutely true with so many rockets able to reach so many towns and villages within Israel, being fired from Gaza which was land we were in control of until we gave it away to the PLO.
Let us each do all we can to dispel the notion that peace can be achieved by ceding land to terrorists. Let us fully understand the miscalculation we made with Gaza in 2005 and ensure that NEVER AGAIN will our land be used as a bargaining chip with terrorists who seek to destroy us and are never interested in any real peace as clearly expressed withih their charters. Any autonomy offered to a third world nation who claims to want peace, is not worth any more than the paper it's written upon, even if their intentions were to be sincere, as they do not have the real will nor the power to prevent it being overrun by terrorists such as Hamas, Islamic Jihad and the countless other terrorist organizations residing amongst them.
