An Only in Israel Story

As we approached a bus stop, the bus driver honked his horn at a car just in front of us, which had wedding decorations on it. The driver of that car thought he had done something wrong. The bus and car pull over to the curb, both drivers get out, but the bus driver first takes a package from alongside his seat and upon going out to speak to the other driver, gives him the package. Bus driver: "Are you the groom?"

Wedding car driver: "No, I'll be driving the groom and bride after the wedding tonight."

Bus driver: "Give this to them. It's a box of chocolates. Wish them mazal tov." The wedding car driver is clearly touched, but asks the bus driver: "Do you know the couple?"

Bus driver: "Of course not, didn't I even ask you if you were the groom?"

Wedding car driver: "Right, so why are you giving them a present?"

Bus driver: "Because I have a cousin who is a hostage in Gaza, and I need to make as many people happy as I can, for my own mental health, and as a prayer for the release of the hostages."

The bus driver gets back on the bus. I ask him: "Do you always carry chocolates with you?" "No," he replied. "I had bought them for my girlfriend, but believe me she'll understand."
