Clever as a Fox

How do foxes adapt to different environments?

Foxes are small mammals with bushy tails, pointed ears, and narrow snouts, related to dogs and wolves. They can live almost anywhere—forests, mountains, deserts, and even in cities, adjusting their diet and behavior to their surroundings. Foxes will eat plants or animals, including mice, birds, bugs, fruits, vegetables, and people’s leftovers. Like cats, they help control the rodent population. They will leap high in the air and pounce on their prey, which is effective and exciting to watch. Foxes are very vocal, with over 20 types of barks, howls, and screams; they also use body language and scent markings. Foxes also have incredibly good hearing. They can hear a mouse from 100 feet away and can even detect rodents digging underground.
