The Birth of Our People

Project Likkutei Sichos | December 08, 2025

Every Jew’s act of carrying out the service of leaving “your land, your birthplace, and your father’s house” in his personal sphere will lead to the Jewish people as a whole being brought to “the land that I will show you.” G-d will bring the Jewish people to Eretz Yisrael; there they will be granted true greatness, taking possession of the land in its entirety, sheleimus haaretz. Moreover, “G-d, your L-rd, will expand your boundaries,” granting the Jews the lands of the Keini, Kenizi, and Kadmoni, as well.

These lands were also granted to Avraham in the covenant bein habesarim, because that covenant encompassed the lands of all ten nations. This promise will be fulfilled in the true and complete Redemption, led by Mashiach. May this be realized in the immediate future.

Footnotes

64. Devarim 12:20, see the comments of Sifri; Devarim 19:8, see Rashi’s commentary, Rambam, Hilchos Rotzeach UShemiras Nefesh 8:4.
65. Bereishis 15:19. See Rashi’s commentary, which as quoted in the following footnote emphasizes that not only were the lands of these nations promised to the Jewish people, they were granted to them, i.e., they actually became their property.
66. Seemingly, this is evident from the wording in the covenant (ibid., vs. 18), “I gave this land to your descendants” and the following verse mentions “the Keini, the Kenizi...”. Bereishis Rabbah 44:22 states, “The word of the Holy One, blessed be He, is deed.” {Nevertheless, according to the simple meaning of the verse it is (as Rashi states in his commentary) only “as if it was done” with reference to the lands of the seven nations as well. (See the elaborate explanation in Likkutei Sichos, Vol. 15, p. 204ff.)} Rashi’s states (ibid., vs. 19, based on Bereishis Rabbah 44:23): “There are ten nations here. G-d granted the Jews only the lands of seven of these nations. The three... the Keini, the Kenizi, and the Kadmoni will be an inheritance for the Jewish people in the Ultimate Future.” It is possible to explain that Rashi’s statements imply that the lands of these three nations was given to the Jewish people so that they would be considered part of Eretz Yisrael (and the sanctity of the Land would apply to them). This will not merely involve a change of ownership, but a qualitative change and redefinition of its nature. See Rashbam on Bava Basra 56a, s.v. Chayav; Parshas Derachim, Derech HaKodesh, derush 7; Tzafnas Panei’ach al HaTorah, Devarim 32:49, 34:4; She’elas David, Chiddushim B’Inyanei Shiviis; Encyclopedia Talmudis, erech Eretz Yisrael, p. 205. This is not the place for further elaboration.
