An Ordinary Minchah

Havineini | December 10, 2025

If a Yid continues on this trajectory, he will feel the same anticipation as he approaches Minchah and Maariv as well. He will begin to realize that an “ordinary” Minchah can also bring us to great kirvas Elokim. It doesn’t need to be a dry ordeal. It has the potential to be transformative and to bring a person great chiyus.

In the exalted city of Yerushalayim, there was a tamid shel bein ha’arbayim brought every evening. If so, every Yiddishe neshamah, too, has its own offering that must be brought at this time of day. As he prepares for Minchah, he will sit and contemplate his day.... Had he acted or spoken as he should have...had he properly guarded his eyes as he should have.

He doesn’t engage in idle chatter when Minchah time nears, so as not to muddle his focus with foreign thoughts. If his friend approaches him to chat, he excuses himself... “I have important business to attend to, and I need all my focus for it,” he will say. This is the authentic Yiddishkeit that the Ribbono shel Olam wants from us!
