He also explains why the Torah enumerates all the stages in Klal Yisrael's long journey. The forty-two stations are equivalent to the number of letters in the שם מ"ב, one of the holy names of Hashem. With this, the Torah illustrates that all the hardships our ancestors endured on the way to their destination were carefully calculated, and that Hashem was with them all the way through. This is the meaning of the pasuk (32:2), ויכתב משה את־מוצאיהם למסעיהם על־פי ה' - Moshe recorded their starting points of their journeys according to the word of Hashem. Moshe recorded their departures for their journeys - to teach us that they were all made according to Hashem's command.

Rav Avraham continues with the following words: "And this was written to assure us that the same will transpire in the coming redemption. Even though we will at first be ceaselessly wandering upon the earth, from mountain to hill, from monarchy to monarchy, and from expulsion to expulsion. Exiled from Eretz Yisrael, we will wander from France to Spain, from Spain to the Muslim countries, and we will be tortured, and still the Eternal One will always guard us... We are steadfast in our trust in Hashem that He will deliver us from our exile and relieve us from our wretched state, just as he released our forefathers from Mitzrayim. Even if we will not be worthy of it, He will do it out of His mercy."
