His Holy Passing

Tradition has it that the Rama used to engage in secluded meditation (hisbodedus) and awake his love for the Creator. The Rama warned his shamash to always come at a designated time to safeguard him lest he be so aflame with ecstasy that his soul might depart his body. Then one day a great fire broke out and in all the commotion the shamash neglected his duty and arrived too late only to find that the Rama’s soul had bound itself to everlasting life of the coming world.
