The Importance of Perspective

But what if we get carried away. We went to Disneyland (OK, Camp Orlando, Disneyworld) in order to tell Mickey Mouse "שאו מרום עיניכם וראו מי ברא אלה!!!" And somehow, along the way, we find ourselves listening to him, and acquiring, ch”v, his world view [Actually, the person inside the Mickey Mouse costume knows that it’s just a disguise, and that he’s only doing this to earn his few dollars. You shouldn’t get more carried away by his disguise than he himself is]. This is not good. We’re supposed to be using the disguise for our ultimate goal, not ch”v allowing ourselves to become confused by it.

A bochur once wrote to the Rebbe that he wants to get a license, so that he’ll be able to do more mivtzoim. The Rebbe responded to him: “Vos shleps du mir arein in dein taavos??!!!” [Why are you dragging me into your desires].

The Rebbe did not deny that a license could be as help in hafotzas hamaayonos. The Rebbe said (seemingly) to the bochur: All of the worldly tools are acceptable, when we keep the right perspective; - that these are merely tools to promote G-dliness. But when one starts becoming attracted to the tools themselves, when they become his taavos, then that defeats the purpose.
