The Bais Avrohom of Slonim zy”a (quoted in Kovetz Sichos Kodesh) explained this pasuk with the following story:
Rav Aharon Hagadol of Karlin zy”a once sent a baal teshuva to the Magid of Mezhritch with a letter that said, “I am sending you the person carrying this letter. From his foot to his head he has nothing. He is full of bruises and wounds and he wants to get closer to the truth.”
The baal teshuva traveled for weeks until he arrived in Mezhritch. When he showed the Magid his letter, the Magid read it a few times but was puzzled by its content, as the man did not seem to be in such bad shape. He then said, “The holy Rav Aharon certainly wrote the truth, but the man’s travels must have removed some of his imperfections.”
Accordingly, this pasuk can be understood to be saying that when a metzorah comes to be purified, he should be brought to the kohen, i.e., a tzadik, and the kohen shall see him and the negah will be healed – because the travel to the tzadik itself serves to heal a person’s soul.
This shall be the law of the metzorah on the day of his purification, and he shall be brought to the kohen. (14:2)
