Rav Dovid Pinchi was one of Rav Shimshon Nachmani’s first rebbes in Kabbalah in Mantuba where he served as a posek. He taught around the same period as Rav Aviad Sar Shalom, the author of Pesach Ha'Ohel, which was a collection of derashos in the manner of “Pardes”, covering Calendar.
He was a disciple of Maharm Rav Moshe Zechut (Zacuto) and Rav Yehuda Briel. From the latter, Rav Pinchi received the title “Chaver” and received semicha to the rabbinate. Rav Pinchi served as Rav and posek in Elisandira dela Paula (Alessandria, Piedmont) and in Mantuba.
Rav Pinchi was the Ramchal’s father-in-law (Rav Moshe Chaim Luzzato married his daughter, Tzipora). Rav Shimshon Chaim Nachmani authored a poem celebrating their wedding as was customary in Italy during those days. The poem has two parts. The first, “Lamenatzeyach L’eved Dovid,” relates the Midrash (Pirkei DeRabbi Eliezer Ch. 40) that describes how Moshe Rabbeinu (a reference to the chassan's side since the Ramchal is also named Moshe) won the hand of Yisro’s daughter Tzipora (a reference to the kallah as the daughter of Rav Dovid Pinchi who was named Tzipora) by pulling out the staff from the stone. The second part of the poem, “Al Rosh Pe'er Migdal,” honors Rav Dovid and his Yeshiva; wisdom and mentorship; and the chassan and the kallah.
Rav Dovid Pinchi took part in defending the Ramchal against his son-in-law’s, opponents when controversy arose over the Ramchal’s writings, signing his name in a letter of defense. Many of his responsa (Shu't printed in Shu't Divrei Yosef, Shu't Shemesh Tzedaka, Pachad Yitzchok (Lampronti) and manuscript collections. He passed away 7th Teves.תצ"ה
In Zera Shimshon Parshas Miketz, Rav Shimshon Chaim Nachmani cites Rav Pinchi when he concludes his derasha - using the manner of “sod” - as to why Yosef haTzadik was freed from prison only after two years had passed. He writes: “When my master and teacher Rav Dovid Pinchi, Rav in Mantuba heard this explanation [from me] he said it was “kaftor vaperach – a beautiful explanation.” The expression “kaftor vaperach” means beautifully decorated and adorned. Kaftor vaperach. (see Teruma 25:33 and Rashi ad loc).
