And then something happened. It was announced by the head manager that the work would continue every day of the week, including Shabbat. The foreman noticed that there was some kind of unrest among the Jewish women, and after a short inquiry he found that the women refused to work on Shabbat. He immediately stood up and announced in a firm voice: A woman who does not want to work on Shabbat, should now get up with her suitcase in her hand, and leave the factory as if she had been fired from work! The Jewish women, who knew very well what it meant to leave work, as an act of suicide, naturally preferred to remain silent and return to work, but to the surprise of all of them, one girl did not return to work, but held a suitcase in her hand and walked confidently towards the exit. To the manager's question: Where are you headed, and why? She replied: I do not want to desecrate the Sabbath, and therefore I am leaving this place of work. The non-Jewish manager, who was moved by the girl's courage, could not hide his feelings, and turned to the workers: "You will all continue to work on the Sabbath, except for this girl, who proved her adherence to her religion with unbelievable courage – I release her from all work on the Sabbath."
