The Gadols Trail

זכרו תורת משה | June 27, 2025

One afternoon, a rebbi in Yeshiva Kol Torah in Yerushalayim informed the Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, zt”l, that he needed to leave a bit early to visit an apartment his family was planning on moving to. Rav Shlomo Zalman gave him a bracha for hatzlacha, but the Rosh Yeshiva also insisted on joining him on the visit.

When they arrived, Rav Shlomo Zalman inquired about each room and what it would be used for. The rebbi was astounded that the Rosh Yeshiva took so much of his time and was so concerned about the apartment and all its details. Every moment was precious to Rav Shlomo Zalman, and here he was, asking about the inconsequential details of an apartment!

The rebbi finally asked Rav Shlomo Zalman, “Why did the Rosh Yeshiva insist on coming along with me?”

Rav Shlomo Zalman answered with a smile and said, “I wanted to see where you will live so that I can place an ayin tova, a good eye, on your home!”
