The Toy Collection

The Toy Collection (Or Daniel).

One Rosh Kollel in the United States, who wanted to encourage the yeshiva students and motivate them to learn better, agreed with the owner of a toy factory – who was himself a great lover of Torah – that the yeshiva student who proved himself in the best way during the entire "time" would be allowed to enter the factory for ten minutes and take whatever he wanted. And now, at the end of the "time," the yeshiva student knocks on the gates of the factory, and presents the confirmation from the Kollel that he is the outstanding yeshiva student and asks for permission to exercise the right that was given to him. The manager received him warmly, took him into his office, hugged and kissed him, and gave him permission to enter the factory for ten minutes and take whatever his heart desired. The factory manager stood on the sidelines and watches how the yeshiva student goes to the production lines and takes the best toys from there in order to bring them to his children, and as someone who is truly a lover of Torah, he participates in the joy of the Torah scholar. "I knew I had a part in that yeshiva's teachings, and I did it with great joy!" – the principal will later say to the Rosh Kollel. Because the toys left in the factory were heavy, the student could not take many items at once, and had to walk time and time again from the production lines and shelves to the place where he placed the storage boxes. And behold, he fills one box, and another, and another, and continues to take more and more. Five minutes have passed, and here is the sixth and seventh minutes until all ten minutes are over.

When the Rosh Kollel came to thank the manager for his great work, the factory manager told him, "I am very surprised that your yeshiva student did not take full advantage of the possibilities available to him. It is true that he took eighteen boxes, but he had the opportunity to take much, much more." – said the manager and explained his words: "In the production hall there was a forklift used to transfer goods from one place to another, if the student used a forklift, And with the help of it, able to take the toys and transfer them to the storage boxes, he would manage to take a quantity of toys that would fill twenty boxes in each "round", and within ten minutes he could empty half of the factory. But he did not do this, but took one item at a time, one item at a time, and therefore it cost him a total of eighteen boxes..."

After all, we have before us an instructive example of what can be done and collected, in these days of the Ten Days of Repentance, we must accumulate the mitzvot in bundles. In the Ten Days of Repentance, we have only one week, during which time we must fill as many stores of mitzvot as possible. These days it is impossible to gather peacefully and calmly. Now is the time of war and in battle we shoot in bunches. Individual bullets are effective but not for wartime. These days we must concentrate all the forces at our disposal, fight with all the tools of war because this time we must win! We must hurry up on these fateful days in order to double and triple our mitzvot that are performed in times of calm. The holy Shelah writes: "Every single day of these days, a person will turn away from all his business, and it is better at night when he is free from people, to search for his sins and confess them with great weeping and tears, as it is written, 'Streams of water have descended upon my eyes because they have not kept Your Torah,' and he will correct everything that he has corrupted, and he will do for each and every transgression the repentance that it deserves in its generalities and details, and he will repent very, very much ."
