Amen with Azus D’Kedushah

Vechol Maaminim | June 27, 2025

Harav Shlomo Zalman Ehrenreich, the Rav of Shamloi, explained:

Someone who has stumbled and sinned and seeks to do teshuvah sheleimah and to rectify that which he has done wrong must fulfill mitzvos with the same trait that he sinned with. Therefore, if he transgressed a sin in public, with azus panim, impudence, the takanah is for him to daven and answer amen aloud in the shul, with “azus d’kedushah”, without being embarrassed from those who might mock him. If he does this, it is proof that he has repented completely.

This is what the passuk alludes to when saying (Hoshea 14:3): “Kechu imachem devarim veshuvu el Hashem” – take with you – to the areas of holiness – the traits through which you sinned, and this way, your teshuvah will be complete and accepted. (Drashos Lechem Shlomo for Shabbos Shuvah)
