Embarrassment Atones

Rashi states: “She shall be exempted from the effects of the curse-bearing water, and moreover, she shall bear children. If she used to have painful births, she will now have easy births; if she used to give birth to dark-skinned babies, she will now give birth to light-skinned ones.” The Chasam Sofer asks that the Torah is speaking about a woman who behaved improperly, which led to her being suspected of sin. That is what led her to be in this situation. Even though she did not do the sin she was suspected of, the truth remains that her poor behavior was the cause of her shame. If so, why does she deserve a bracha? He answers that despite all of this, when one is embarrassed, he deserves reward because embarrassment atones for one’s sins. We see from here that even if one is the cause of his own embarrassment, his shame still atones for his sins.
