Parshas Nossoh and the Days After Shavuos

Ba'er Heitev | June 27, 2025

The Sefer Siach Sarfei Kodesh, quotes the Chidushei Harim ZY”A, who points out the following. Parshas Nossoh [the longest Parsha in the Torah], has the lengthiest Zohar HaKodosh and Medrash more than any other Parsha in the Torah. Since Parshas Nossoh is immediately after Shavuos, the time of Kabolas HaTorah, that Chazal showed a slight power of spreading of the Heilege (holy) Torah.

Furthermore, as we find ourselves in the days after Shavuos, we must see to it as not to be a “Tinok haborei’ach mibeis hasefer – a child who is running away from the Yeshivah”. We left Mitzrayim on Pesach, we ate Matzoh at the Seder and all its Mitzvos and the days of Yom Tov following it. We counted seven weeks of Sefiroh up until the Yom Tov of Shavuos and then the Yom Tov itself. Now we must see to hold on to it. During the week after Shavuos, Tachnun is not said in many communities, as quoted in Sifrei Halochoh, as it is the days the Korbon (sacrifice) of Chagigoh for the Olei Regolim was brought in the Beis HaMikdosh.

In addition, the Shabbos after Shavuos is “Shabbos Noch Shavuos – after Shavuos – Still Shavuos, translated from Yiddish. It is still Shavuos since on the Shabbos during Pesach and Succos, the Shulchon was raised to show the warm Lechem HaPonim, the Poroches was opened to show all that the Keruvim on the Aron HaKodesh were facing each other. And it was proclaimed “Ri’u chiebaschem lifnei HaMokom – Behold you are cherished before Hashem”.

See Chagigoh Daf 99:1, Ritvoh Bava Basroh 26:2

Furthermore, the Sefer Siach Sarfei Kodesh quotes Rav Henoch of Aleksander ZY”A on the Possuk in Tehillim 118:27 “Issru Chag Bavosim – bind the festival offering with cords”. Just as a tailor who sews, if the thread does not have a knot the stitching will not last. So too, a person must bind the days of Yom Tov that passed and make a strengthening and base that they should not separate from him.
