Kittel

Parsha Halacha | June 27, 2025

● Some have a custom to wear a kittel (a white garment which resembles a shroud) for the Rosh Hashanah prayers.

● In some communities, only the Chazzan, Ba'al Tokei’a and Kohanim who “duchan" wear a kittel. This includes the chazzan for pesukei dezimrah, shachrit and musaf but not the chazzan for mincha and ma’ariv. The chazzanim for Pesukei D’zimrah and Shacharit remove their Kittel after Shacharit whereas the Ba’al Toke’a keeps his on until after Musaf (even if he only blew the first set of Tekiot).

● The Chabad custom is not to wear a kittel. This applies to the Chazzan and Ba'al Tokei’a as well.
