How do wolves adapt to different environments?
Living in in packs with sophisticated social structures and a strict hierarchy, wolves have a complicated system of communication, including vocalizations like howls, growls, and barks, as well as body language and scent marking. They are also highly adaptable—they grow a thick fur coat to keep them warm in the winter, and then shed it in the spring when the weather gets better.
While they are known for hunting large prey like deer and elk, wolves also eat smaller animals, carcasses, and even fruits and vegetables when necessary. They can live in a variety of habitats, from forests and tundras to deserts and grasslands. Wolves can travel great distances in search of food, sometimes covering up to 12 miles in a single day.
