5734–1973, shortly before they returned home after the Tishrei holidays, the Rebbe summoned several Israeli Chabad activists, and asked them to arrange visits by groups of chasidim to IDF soldiers, bringing them joy and encouragement just after the conclusion of hostilities of the Yom Kippur War. He specified that each group was to include at least one individual who had been in 770 for the holidays and someone who was in Israel, that they share a recent Torah idea taught by the Rebbe, and that they give each soldier some money to keep for themselves and some to be given to charity. The Rebbe added that he would cover ninety-nine percent of the cost, leaving the merit of the last one percent for others. 2 Cheshvan
