In order to make the Ephod, they flattened out the gold into plates, and then they cut this flattened gold into threads, in order to weave them into the Tcheiles, Argaman, and Tola’as Shani threads. The Ramban asks why only here does the Torah go into detail of how they made gold threads? It is noteworthy that only the Ephod, which was worn by Ahron, had gold threads going through the Tcheiles, etc. However, the Paroches, the two Masach’s, and the fabric of the Mishkan itself; had the same kinds of threads, except for gold threads.
We can suggest that the Torah is teaching us that despite the greatness of the Mishkan; which is the: מָ קוֹ ם הַ שְּ רָ אַ ת הַ שְּ כִ ינָ ה place where the Shechina rests, yet the human being is much greater, and therefore only he gets golden threads. Like the Nefesh HaChaim says that when a Yid has evil thoughts in his head, it’s worse than the horrific sin that Titus did in the Kodesh HaKodoshim.
The Adam is greater than the whole super-holy Mishkan, including the Kodesh HaKodoshim; if he is a true Tzelem Elokim who has Hashem in his mind all the time. Perhaps the way the gold threads were made are a Remez to Shamayim. The Passuk says: וַיְּרַקְּעו “they flattened the gold”, similar to the: רָ קִ יעַ “spread-out” sky (Shamayim), and: וְּקִצֵץ פְּתִילִ ים they cut the flat sheets into gold “strings” (P’sil), which are similar to the: פְּתִיל P’sil (strings) of Tzitzis, which are the color of Shamayim (Tcheiles), and the P’sil Tcheiles which held down the: צִיץ Tzitz, and the P’sil Tcheiles which connected the Ephod to the Choshen.
Our Main Respect and Admiration Needs to Be for Ourselves and Our Actions
And the: מְּעִיל Me’il was total sky-blue Tcheiles; this inspired the Cohen Gadol to be totally involved in Shamayim. And when he wears the Ephod with its golden threads, he remembers the way they were made, and thinks of Hashem. The Cohen Gadol is like a Melech, who is meant to serve as an example for all of us. Yes, we must have tremendous respect for Mekomos HaKedoshim & Chashuva people, etc. But mainly we need to respect ourselves, like they said in Slabodka: מַה נּוֹרָא הַמָקוֹם הַזֶה וְּאָנֹכִי לֹא יָדָעְּתִי ויצא כח טז-יז How great is THIS Makom, and I was completely unaware of it!
The true Makom is YOU, and your actions and your thoughts; they are super precious! A person should be overjoyed with every tiny Mach’shava and Ratzon Tov that he has; it’s pure gold! And wait till you find out how much reward you will get, especially in Olam HaBah, with indescribable and unending goodness awaiting you! אַשְּ רֵנו מַה טוֹב חֶלְּקֵנו How fortunate is our lot!
