How does Avadim Hayinu answer the questions of Mah Nishtana? Further, how can we say that if Hashem did not take us out, we would still be there? Hashem could have made the Geula later as well.
The 4 questions correspond to the 4 terms of Geula; והוצאתי, והצלתי, וגאלתי, ולקחתי, I took you out, I saved you, I redeemed you and I took you.
The Geula is something that is higher than nature, which could’ve happened through Tefillah, but instead, Yetzias Mitzraim came from Hashem Himself, like we say וַוֹיּצִ יאֵ נוּ ה' אֱ #קֵ ינוּ “and Hashem our G-d took us out”.
In truth, what is the great wonder of Yetzias Mitzraim? Hashem Himself made the Golus, so too He made the Geulah?! What is the Chiddush? The truth is that the wonder of the Golus is greater than the wonder of the Geula. Just like it is more of a wonder when a father punishes his child than when he gives him a kiss.
The real wonder and Chiddush of Yetzias Mitzraim is that it was Hashem Himself who took them out, as it says ולקחתי, “and I took them to Me”.
This is what the Haggadah wanted to convey by saying that “if Hakadosh Baruch Hu had not brought us out of Mitzraim, then we and our children and our children’s children would be enslaved to Pharaoh in Mitzraim. It is well known, the Jews at that time had sunken into the 49 Levels of Impurity, and if (Chas Veshalom) they had remained in Mitzraim any longer, they would have sunk down into the Fiftieth level, from which they would not be able to be redeemed.
This is the miracle of the Geulah of that time, and this is also the answer of Avadim Hayinu to the Mah Nishtana, that the לקחתי, “I took You” refers to the very essence of Hashem.
