Israel. We always face Israel when we daven and wait for the time to go there, especially today when at any moment "Moshiach is coming". So what does the expression "Make Israel here" mean? What do we want, to stay chalila in golus or to reach the time of redemption?
The speaking goral
The Land of Israel was divided upon according to lots (goral) as Hashem said, "...Only with a lot will the Land be divided..." There was a container with the names of the 12 tribes and a second container with the different areas of land in Israel. Elazar HaCohen would announce, for example, that the Negev goes to the tribe of Shimon. Afterwards, they would take out two slips. The first one had written on it the "tribe of Shimon" and the second one had written on it "the Negev".
The bigger miracle was when the slip that was pulled out started speaking and announced, "I'm the goral for the area of the Negev for the tribe of Shimon." Everyone saw that the drawing of the goral was determined and guided by Hashem. Every tribe got the portion they were supposed to get.
In this week's parsha we learn about the division of the Land of Israel for the twelve tribes, to each and every Jew. As usual the Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach ties this in with the most relevant topic, the true and complete redemption, a time when everyone will receive a portion in the Land of Israel. Let's see what we can learn from this now, moments before the redemption.
Once a Chassid came to the Tzemach Tzedek and requested permission to immigrate to the Land of Israel, because he thought he would be able to daven and learn better there than outside of Israel. The Rebbe told him, "Make Israel here"...Stay where you are and make the place where you are "The Land of Israel" with your Torah learning and davening. We also have to change the last moment before the redemption into "The Land of Israel".
What does the expression, "Make Israel here" really mean? Outside of Israel isn't Israel any more. The Land of Israel is a better place for learning Torah and davening than outside of Israel.
Everything is exactly what Hashem wanted
Hashem created the world for us to make it a nice home for Him. Everything that happens in this world is leading up to one purpose. Therefore, whatever we do, even if it's only a preparation to doing a mitzvah, it's the most important thing in the world, because it helps us make this world a nice home for Him. We have to really put ourselves into it.
As Chassidim of the Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach, we have to be really into whatever we do, such as when we learn – to think only about learning, or daven – to live it and speak only to Hashem, and not to your friends. Whoever is really into whatever they're doing will be successful and happy. A person who is totally into something is called a "pnimi". He's really and completely into it.
In order for us to conquer the world and make it a nice home for Hashem, we have to conquer the whole world and make it His home. We the conquerors have to be totally involved in conquering the world, and not involved in something else.
When the Land of Israel was divided up for the 12 tribes, the goral was only a means of doing this, but Hashem wanted that the goral would prove that the division of the Land was supposed to be in a certain way. From this we see three things: The Cohen was there who saw with his ruach hakodesh (thought), the goral spoke (speech), and someone took the goral out with their hands (action).
Whatever we do now is part of our special shlichus. Everything has a purpose. We have to use every opportunity available to us, with our thoughts, speech, and action in order for us to do our job of making the world a nice home for Hashem.
Make Israel here
Even when we are here, moments before the redemption, we have to do our part to the best of our ability to make the redemption happen sooner. These last moments before the redemption have to be turned into "The Land of Israel". By doing so, we will bring about the complete redemption, a time when everything will be perfected and complete.
Our goal is the Land of Israel and the true and complete redemption, but the Rebbe Melech Hamoshiach said that the way to the goal also serves a purpose. We have to use the time to the fullest extent and do our jobs, our shlichus, to the fullest extent as well, and make these last moments already part of the redemption.
Tachlis
The Rebbe Harayatz told us the story about the Tzemach Tzedek who said "Make the Land of Israel here". The Rebbe Shlita is the leader of our generation, for he knows each and every one of us. When he told the story, he meant it for all of us. Therefore each and every one of us is being told by the Rebbe to make his own place "The Land of Israel" and to turn this moment into the true and complete redemption.
We can learn something else from the above. Some people ask how they can bring about the redemption. They find themselves in some corner at the end of the world. Nobody knows them, and whatever they do will not be heard about or known. How then can they turn the world into redemption? Each and every one of us occasionally thinks over the same questions. We might think if we were instead of someone or in a different place, everything would be a lot different and better.
The truth is that whatever we do, even the smallest thing, in some corner in the world, is the best we can do for now. Hashem sent us here to do what we're doing here now. Our job is to do what we can. When we do our job, our shlichus, our part, sincerely and with all of our heart, we will change the whole world. The little things we do here change the world map and bring about the redemption.
By acting in this way, and being totally there, a "pnimi", we begin to live the redemption and change our day into a day of redemption with dancing and happiness!
