Now You Know

מגדל אור | June 25, 2025

Moshe knew his days were numbered. He would not be leading the Jews into the Land of Israel.

In a unique syntax, we find Moshe speaking to Hashem, almost commanding Him, asking that He appoint a proper leader for the Jewish People to take his place.

Hashem directs Moshe to publicly tap Yehoshua as his successor. He does so wholeheartedly, placing not one, but TWO hands upon Yehoshua before the nation.

Then, the Torah seemingly switches gears, talking about the daily Tamid offering, a korban brought morning and evening. What is the connection?

Rashi explains Hashem was saying, “Before you direct Me on how to treat My children, direct My children on how to behave with Me!”

He compares it to a princess who is dying. On her deathbed she directs her husband how to care for her children.

Moshe was telling Hashem, “These people are special. They need a good leader to bring out the best in them.”

Hashem responded with the command to bring the consistent daily offering, as if to say, “The way to bring out the best in the Jewish People is for them to continually be thinking of their connection to Me.”

Indeed, we are royalty, and the way to live up to that potential is by constantly remembering who is our Father and King.

Thought of the week:

Life is tough, my darling. But so are you!
