“וביום השבת שני כבשים בני שנה תמימים, ושני עשרונים סלת מנחה –28:9בלולה בשמן ונסכו” “And on the day of Shabbos, two sheep that are a year old and are whole, and two tenths of fine flour as a Minchah, mixed with oil, and its Nesachim, libation.” On every Yom Tov and Rosh Chodesh, the laining of the Torah includes the Korbonos which are brought for that day. Why don’t we lain these pesukim regarding the Korbonos brought on Shabbos Kodesh every Shabbos Kodesh, just like on Yom Tov and Rosh Chodesh?
One could try to answer because there are only two pesukim which discuss these korbonos, and the Gemara in Megillah tells us that we do not Lain less than three pesukim for an aliyah. However, this would not be a good answer, for we could add to these two pesukim and begin laining with, “צו את בני ישראל”, as we do on Rosh Chodesh.
The Torah says, “אלה מועדי ד' אשר תקראו אותם” – these are the Moadai Hashem – on which you shall lain on these days. The Torah is telling us on that on all Moadim, we are to lain. Rosh Chodesh is called a Moed, and thus we lain the korbonos on Rosh Chodesh. Shabbos Kodesh is not called a Moed, and thus we don’t lain the korbonos on Shabbos Kodesh.(דעת זקנים מבעלי תוספות)
What is the reason that we don’t lain korbonos on Shabbos Kodesh? The reason that we lain the korbonos brought on Yom Tov and Rosh Chodesh is for Kapparah, to bring atonement. This is as it says in Meseches Ta’anis regarding Avrohom Avinu saying to the Ribbono Shel Olam, “במה אדע כי אירשנה” – “With what will I know that I will inherit.” What Avrohom Avinu was asking was, with which Zechus will he and his descendants be Zoche to inherit the Land of Eretz Yisroel. Hakodosh Baruch Hu told him that it would be in the zechus of the korbonos that Klal Yisroel bring. Avrohom Avinu responded that when the Bais Hamikdash will be standing, then Klal Yisroel can bring korbonos and will thus have a zechus. However, what will be when they are not zoche to have a Bais Hamikdash standing, and they will not be able to bring korbonos? Hakodosh Baruch Hu answered him: They should lain before Me the parshiyos of the korbonos, and I will consider it as if they brought those korbonos in front of Me, and I will grant them a kapparah, an atonement.
In all of the parshiyos of the Moados and Rosh Chodesh, the Torah tells us of korbonos to achieve a kapparah, שעיר עזים אחד לכפר. However, on Shabbos Kodesh, there is no korbon chatas; there is no korbon to bring kapparah. On Yom Tov and Rosh Chodesh, there is a need to lain the parshiyos of the korbonos for that day because laining the parshah brings kapparah. However, on Shabbos Kodesh, the laining would not bring kapparah, and thus is not lained. (Shabbos Kodesh itself brings kapparah, thus korbonos are not needed for kapparah on this holy day).
