Parshas HaMoados and the Elevation of Shabbos during Bein Hametzorim

Ba'er Heitev | December 10, 2025

Seforim HaKedoshim expound that the Shabbosos of Bein Hametzorim (the three weeks) have an elevation more than the Shabbosos of the rest of the year. It is a calculation of contrast. As these three weeks the weekdays are Aveilus (mourning) for the Beis HaMikdosh, hence on Shabbos when there is no Aveilus, the greatness of Shabbos shines out even more.

More so, Shabbos Parshas Pinchos, which is the Parshas HaMo'ados, as we Lein (read) the Korbonos of all the Yomim Tovim. The Seforim HaKedoshim expound further, as we yearn for the Beis HaMikdosh, specifically now we Lein the Parshas HaMo'ados, as the rule is "Uneshalmoh Porim Sifsoseinu – With the reading of the portions of the Torah it is as we are Makriv (sacrificing) the Korbonos".

Many people say Tikun Chatzos the whole year, to mourn the destruction of the Beis HaMikdosh, more so during Bein Hametzorim. It can be said at midnight, midday or before Shachris. A guest once visited the Chasidic court of Kotzk and questioned, "When do they say Tikun Chatzos?” the Kotzker Chasidim learning Torah there late into the night answered, "It is yet to come". As the night lingered on, a fellow Chossid entered the Shtiebel with Lekach uhn Bromfin (cake and whisky). The Chasidim made Brochos, wished "L'chaim" and then prepared to make an "Al Hamichyoh", the final Brochoh. The host told the visitor, "Now is our Tikun Chatzos, as we will say in the Brochoh of Al Hamichyoh, Racheim noh... Have mercy on Klall Yisroel, on Yerusholayim etc.... The visitor learnt the significance of how to serve Hashem even in mundane matters, as he learnt in Kotzk.
