How are traits passed down through generations?

In this parsha, Hashem rewards Pinchas by making him a kohein like the other descendants of Aharon. But how do traits and roles pass from one generation to the next? In science, the answer begins with genetics. Every human has DNA, a set of instructions passed from parents to children. DNA is stored in genes, and those genes decide things like eye color, blood type, and even how tall you might grow. Half your genes come from your mother and half from your father. Some traits are obvious, like red hair or dimples. Others will only show if both parents carry the gene. And while genes don’t control everything, they give our bodies a blueprint to start from. We all carry pieces of our ancestors with us, a way for Hashem to connect generation from the inside out!
