Significant Minority [מיעוט המצוי]

29. If a type of produce is not infested the majority of the time, but infestation is common in a minority of cases, there is no chiyuv d’oraisa t check it, as mid’oraisa, we follow majority. However, there is a chiyuv d’rabanan to check (רשב''א שם ). A practical ramification is in b’dieved situations: If a fruit with a significant minority frequency of infestation was not checked and it got mixed into something else or cooked and can no longer be checked, the fruit may be eaten b’dieved (רשב''א שם, פמ''ג סי' פ''ד סקכ''ח ).
