Picture yourself as a Dovid fighting Golyas (whose name means Gilui (Gemara) since he came about through the Gilui Arayos of his mother) and easily destroying him with a mere pebble. This is also a main tactic in fighting the Yetzer Hara; i.e., when you laugh at the stupidity of it, like they did in Novardok. Indeed, by Yosef it says that he was: מְׂ פַ טְׂ פֵ ט בְׂ יִ צְׂ רוֹ made a joke of his Yetzer Hara.
I know a person who suffered for years from his Ta'avos until he consistently repeated to himself the fallacy of something that appears substantial and is really Hevel. Rabbi Miller Zatzal used to do these things, and he told others to do the same. Be M'vazeh your Yetzer Hara, and try to analyze how ludicrous it really is, and how much happier you are when you are Mis'gaber.
This is the Parsha that is openly a war against the Midyanim because they caused us to sin. And Pinchos was chosen to be the: מָ שוּחַ מִלְׂחָמָה Cohen that goes out to war, without a doubt because he destroyed his own Yetzer Hara and was the grandson of Yosef HaTzaddik, the #1 warrior against his Yetzer. And the same with Dovid who was known to have a big Yetzer Hara (as the Passuk calls him an: אַדְׂמוֹנִי ש"א טז יב flaming red head) and therefore he is the leader in the physical wars against the Pelishtim since he is the biggest Gibbor, and: אֵיזֶּהוּ גִבוֹר, הַכוֹבֵש אֶּת יִצְׂרוֹ Who is truly strong? One who overcomes his own desires. (Gemara).
And what Dovid and Pinchos did physically, is a Siman on their own Ruchaniyus'dik wars, because only Tzaddikim were eligible to fight in the Jewish army.
