Divrei Torah on Parshas Re'ey

In Targum Yonoson it interprets the Possuk as follows

ראה אנכי אמר משה נביא חמון דאנא מסדר קדמיכון יומא דין ברכתא וחילופה: תרגום יונתן על דברים פרק י"א פכ"ו

Why does the Targum interpret "And the opposite" rather than literally, and the curse?

I was Zoche to Daven once of the many times together with HaTzadik Reb Zalmen Brizel ZT"L in the Karliner Shul in Yerushalayim. It was in his later years and the Yungerleit helped him put on his coat. As he was surrounded by the Avreichim, he called out to them "Kinderlach mehn darft hobben Ahavas Hashem – Children we must have Love for Hashem". [See Malbim, Devorim 11:1 on this topic.]

Once we hear how Tzadikim lived with a constant thought and strived for greatness, we can then expound that one who Chas VeSholom (G-D forbid) does the opposite of the will of Hashem, is doing the opposite of Brocha (Blessing). That is the greatest Kloloh (curse).

The greatest Brochoh is when one does the Rotzon (will of) Hashem, then he is on the correct path and is going straight, to the light of Hashem, His Torah and Mitzvos.

As we are now at Shabbos Mevorchim Elul, the Month before and in preparation for Rosh Hashonoh, it is appropriate to write the following story. When Reb Moshe Kobriner was a young boy of around five years old, he was playing with his toys on Shabbos Mevorchim Elul. His older sister called out to him, "Moshe mehn geit doch Bentchin der Choidesh heint – Moshe we are going to Bentch (bless) the new Chodesh (month of Elul)! The Kobriner said that is when he was "Oimeid al datoi – he comprehended his place in this world".

The Chidushei Harim ZY"A says that Chodesh Elul is the month before Rosh Hashonoh. It is a month of preparation. Just as a soldier who goes out to war must be prepared, so too Hashem gives us a Matonoh (present), a month to prepare to crown Hashem as King of the world. May we be Zoche for a sweet new year.
