...And if in the Beis Hamikdash in the Land of Israel, where they saw clear miracles, and as the saying of the Mishnah, “Ten miracles were made for our forefathers in the Beis Hamikdash,” they still had to make a Mechitzah (partition) between men and women...how much more so after the destruction of the Beis Hamikdash – may it be built speedily in our days – and outside the Land, and in the synagogue which is only a miniature Mikdash, and especially in our orphaned generation, that the matter of the Mechitzah in the synagogue is extremely necessary. And we have clearly seen that in those synagogues that did away with the Mechitzah or that they made it too small, this was nothing but a beginning of going out and going down worse and worse, may the Merciful One save us. And afterwards they also set up a microphone on Shabbos and Yom Tov, which is biblically forbidden and their hand is yet outstretched to go down several more levels. And I don’t want to go on at length about negative things about Jewish people etc., and I hope...that your honor will use all the means and ways to nullify this bad thought of taking away a Mechitzah in the synagogue. And to explain to them – even though it is obvious – that when you come even to a small official of flesh and blood and ask him even for a small request, it is polite and also understood intellectually that at that time you shouldn’t do things that are the opposite of the official’s will, because this contradicts the request. And how much more so when we come in front of the King of all kings, the Holy One, blessed is He and ask Him for life, children and sustenance, and it is forbidden and a criminal offense to do at that time things by which we rebel against the word of Hashem, the G-d of the world...
