Son of Rav Asher Yeshaya Rubin of Ropshitz (son-in-law of Rav Naphtali Ropshitzer). Rav Menachem Mendel was the son-in-law of Rav Meir of Apta, author of Ohr LaShomayim. He received the Chassidic tradition from his grandfather, the Ropshizter, as well as from his father-in-law. He was appointed rebbe and his chassidim grew in number especially after his father’s passing.
He was also a gadol in Torah and he exchanged responsa with other giants in Torah such as Rav Chaim Halberstam of Sanz, author of Divrei Chaim and Rav Avrohom Zev Wolf of Pshervorsk, the Meshiv Halacha. His sayings were published along with his son’s Torah in the sefer, Lashon Tzadik in Brooklyn. He passed away on 1 Rosh Chodesh Elul. תרלג 1873. His sons were: Rav Yaakov Yosef – (who was son in law of Rav Elazar of Kozhnitz and who passed away in his father’s lifetime); Rav Meir Rubin of Glogov, his successor; and Rav Asher Rubin Satshover Rebbe.
