5730-1970, after bureaucratic roadblocks made it difficult for Chabad chasidim to continue their custom of delivering the Rebbe’s blessings to soldiers of the IDF, the Rebbe wrote several letters to Israeli officials. He explained that “when one gives a sincere and heartfelt blessing to another person, it has power and will have an effect ... This is besides for the psychological impact of bringing hearts together to lift their spirit.” The Rebbe also thanked those officials who helped make the initiative happen.
