In Sefer Shmuel it says that Dovid conquered a city, and called it Ir Dovid (in honor of himself?!). Similarly, it says that Shevet Don conquered Leshem and renamed it Dan: כְשֵּׁם דָן אֲבִיהֶּם יהושע יט מז after their ancestor Dan (“from Dan to Be’er Sheva"). Yehuda was the #1 Shevet, and Dan was: יָרוּד שֶּׁבִּשְׁבָטִים the lowest of the Shevotim. (Medrash). Notice how Shevet Don is so polite and full of respect for the father of their Shevet, and Dovid appears like a Baal Ga’ava naming after himself!
Dovid also called himself a Tzaddik (כִי חָסִיד אָנִי תהלים פו ב “I’m a big Tzaddik”)! Today, people would look at his actions as strange. But indeed, by his grandson, Yehoshafat, it says: וַיִגְבַּהּ לִבּוֹ בְּדַרְ כֵּי ה' he lifted his heart to serve Hashem, and it’s quite likely that he picked his Derech from his Zeide, since all Dovid’s royal grandchildren are constantly being compared to him in Tanach. Dovid had to be soft because his Admoni (flaming red head) nature, but he still had plenty of Romemus.
The K’ruvim were faces of innocent, pure babies (similar to Bitachon and Temimus which means to feel like a baby in Hashem’s arms) and looking at each other with love and Achdus yet, they had powerful wings like predatory birds have.
