Being M'chazek a Broken Jew (Yourself) Can Be One of Your Greatest Zechusim

Bitachon Weekly | June 27, 2025

Moshe had Taynos on Ahron; i.e., why he didn’t eat the Korban. Moshe was not a Gashmiyus type of person. He fasted 40 days and 40 nights. But in Yiddishkeit, there is a time and place for the most-simple Gashmiyus, like eating a Korban. And eating it gives a Kapara for sins! Next time you eat because you are depressed, don’t play down your “lofty” actions. Being M'chazek a broken Jew (yourself) is a phenomenal Mitzva. So many of us need Gashmiyus to help us chill out from stress.

Ideally, it would be great to realize how therapeutic a blatt Gemara can be for your blood pressure. Or how being involved in Zikkui HaRabbim can do wonders for your psyche and your self-esteem. But often you need Gashmiyus, like food, or play, or schmoozing, or taking walks, photography, woodworking, or “joining the Chevra”; you are doing this because you need to (hopefully with a Rebbe’s guidance), and it should be viewed as one of your greatest Zechusim! In Shamayim it could be Kodesh Kodoshim, and there would be Taynos on you for not engaging in such activities when necessary!
