To the fact that these creatures are detestable to Hashem, because of this they shall be an abomination to you. As to why it says V'esheketz with a vav can be explained with the words of the Chachamim found in Chullin (5b) "Hashem does not bring about a transgression even through the animals of Tzadikim and certainly does not bring about an averiah through the Tzadikim themselves. Tosfoes explains that this is only regarding the Averia of eating non Kosher foods. (Meaning that Hashem protects Tzadkim from eating non kosher foods) This is because it is disgusting for a Tzadik to have non kosher enter their bodies, even if it entered their bodies inadvertently. This then is what the pasuk hints "and" they shall be an abomination to you. Meaning the extra Vav hints that even if the non kosher foods enters your body by mistake, nevertheless it will make the neshama disgusting.
