The Torah teaches us about kosher and non-kosher animals. Only certain animals, fish, birds, and insects are permitted to be eaten. Kosher animals must have split hooves and chew their cud. Kosher fish must have fins and scales. The Torah lists birds that are not kosher, and all others are permitted.
Insects and crawling creatures are generally not kosher, with a few exceptions. The Torah also teaches us to be careful about what we eat, making sure our food is pure and suitable according to HaShem’s laws. This helps keep the Jewish people holy and connected to HaShem.
