Receiving the Light of Truth from the Pure Tzaddikim
However, there is incredible hope! As Rebbe Nachman points out, there are tzaddikim who don’t have these flaws whatsoever: “One should know that there are kasher neshamos that are born with purity – and they didn’t damage [their neshamos] through their actions – who don’t have any of these thoughts.”
These tzaddikim have already purified themselves of the sin of the Tree of Knowledge in previous incarnations and they continue to do so in this lifetime as well. In addition, they were born with incredible kedushah, so their neshamos are illuminated with the light of truth. These tzaddikim come from the higher parts of the “body” of Adam HaRishon, some of them from the head itself.
Thus, the main purpose of our existence is to attach ourselves to these tzaddikim and receive their light. Although we may struggle with the darkness of heretical thoughts, negative emotions, and complete emptiness, it is possible for us to come to real emunah by connecting to the true tzaddikim who can illuminate our souls and bring out the pure radiance that is underneath of our imperfections. There is a way for us to enter the realm of Torah and tefillah, and begin polishing and improving the condition of our neshamos. Even at the bottom of the heels, we can be close to Hashem by following the advice and guidance of the head – the great tzaddikim.
