Halachos and Minhagim for Parshas Shemos

Today’s haftorah is Haba’im Yashreish Yaakov (Yeshayahu 27:6-28:13; 29:22-23).

Today is the yahrzeit of the Rambam.

Today is the anniversary of the histalkus of the Alter Rebbe in the year 5573 (1813). His resting place is in Haditch.

The Rebbe’s horaos for this day include the following:

• To increase in Torah study. The Rebbe suggested studying the chapters of Mishnayos beginning with the letters of the Alter Rebbe’s name (at least one chapter); a paragraph in the Alter Rebbe’s Shulchan Aruch (based on your personal preference); one chapter of Tanya; and a topic in the Alter Rebbe’s maamarim (preferably in the weekly Torah Or).
• To add in the avodah of davening. (This also includes studying the Alter Rebbe’s maamarim on the topic of tefillah, such as the maamar of Hakol Kol Yaakov, printed in the beginning of the Alter Rebbe’s siddur.)
• To give extra tzedakah, preferably to an organization involved in the work of the Alter Rebbe (and his successors), or to an organization carrying his name.
• To participate in a farbrengen.

If any of the above-mentioned horaos were not done on Chof-Daled Teves, they should be made up for in the subsequent days.
