Rav Moshe Shmuel Shapiro - (1917-2017), Białystok, Israel; Grandson of R' Naftali Zvi Yehuda Berlin - the Netziv. In 1933, left home to study in Baranovich under Rav Elchonon Wasserman. In 1936, moved to Yeshivas Mir where he gained a reputation as having potential for leading the Torah world. Attended Yeshivas Lomza where R' Yechezkel Levenstein recognized his potential. Was granted semicha by Rav Isser Zalman Meltzer, and was the teacher of many, including R' Chaim Kanievsky. Became very close to the Chazon Ish, at whose behest he joined R' Shlomo Wolbe in establishing Yeshivas Be'er Yaakov. Also served as Chief Rabbi of Ramle.
